Dr. Omar is the Director of Structural Heart Interventions at South Shore University Hospital. His clinical interests are in valvular heart disease, coronary artery disease, vascular disease, adult congenital heart disease, and mechanical circulatory support. Using transcatheter and electrosurgical techniques, he performs valve replacements and repairs, left atrial appendage occlusion, patent foramen ovale and atrial septal defect closures, as well as left ventricular septal reduction therapy. In addition, he performs complex coronary and endovascular interventions, including mechanical thrombectomy and renal artery stenting.Dr. Omar is an active researcher and has designed, executed and enrolled patients in large-scale multicenter clinical trials. During a clinical and research fellowship in Structural Heart Interventions at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, he played a pivotal role in the execution of similarly large, multicenter clinical trials to assess the latest innovations in transcatheter heart surgeries. He served as an Instructor at Harvard Medical School and is currently an Assistant Professor at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell.Dr. Omar serves on the editorial board of several leading cardiovascular journals and has authored numerous peer-review articles in leading cardiac journals, in addition to textbook chapters and editorials. He is a member on national cardiovascular societies and works with colleagues across the country to bring the latest innovations in cardiac procedures to his patients.
His clinical expertise encompasses Heart Failure, Heart Attack, Angina, Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), and Aortic Valve Replacement.
Dr. Omar is board certified in American Board Of Internal Medicine, American Board Of Internal Medicine/Cardiovascular Disease, and American Board Of Internal Medicine/Interventional Cardiology. He is actively involved in clinical research, co-authoring 16 peer reviewed articles.
