Overview
Irving Reti, MBBS is a research psychiatrist at The Johns Hopkins University. Dr Reti heralds from Sydney, Australia where he completed medical school at the University of Sydney before coming to Johns Hopkins for psychiatry residency. After completing a post-doctoral fellowship in neuroscience, he established his own laboratory which is focused on the field of brain stimulation. He is a Professor in the Departments of Psychiatry and Neuroscience and is Director of The Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) Service at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. He founded The Brain Stimulation Program at Johns Hopkins in 2008 which has an active preclinical and clinical research program as well as offering specialty consultation and treatment with brain stimulation treatment modalities including transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). He is interested in learning more about how ECT works and is conducting studies implicating the immediate early gene Narp in mediating the antidepressant behavioral effects of electroconvulsive seizures in mice. His other major focus is developing alternate treatments to maintenance ECT, such as deep brain stimulation, for autistic patients he has treated with severe self-injury who remain dependent on ECT to suppress this behavior.

A native of Athens, Greece, Professor Lyketsos graduated from Northwestern University with a BA in Psychology and from Washington University Medical School in St. Louis with a Medical Doctorate. He completed residency and Chief Residency in psychiatry at Johns Hopkins, as well as a fellowship in clinical epidemiology. An active clinician, teacher, and researcher, Dr. Lyketsos is a world expert in the care and treatment of patients with Alzheimer’s and related dementias (ADRD). He carried out pioneering work on the epidemiology and treatment of neuropsychiatric features of AD. His team is developing biomarkers to accelerate treatment development for AD while designing and implementing innovative clinical trials. He leads efforts to ensure the provision of state-of-the-art Dementia Care for people with dementia in the community. Dr. Lyketsos is the Elizabeth Plank Althouse Professor at Johns Hopkins University. He directs the Johns Hopkins Bayview Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences, as well as the Richman Family Precision Medicine Center of Excellence in Alzheimer’s Disease and the Memory and Alzheimer’s Treatment Center. He is the recipient of multiple awards including the 2022 Argo Award for Science from the President of the Hellenic Republic. He has authored/co-authored over 450 peer-reviewed articles, chapters, commentaries, as well as five books. His work has been cited over 76,000 times with an h-index of 149. A 2021 Stanford University publication reported that he ranked #13 out of 9,246 scientists worldwide (all-time) in the field of Geriatrics.
