Overview
Dr. Umasuthan Srikumaran is an associate professor of orthopaedic surgery at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and chair of the Department of Orthopaedics at Johns Hopkins Howard County Medical Center. Specializing in shoulder surgery, Dr. Srikumaran treats patients with shoulder pain, rotator cuff disease, traumatic injuries, instability or dislocations, fractures, osteoarthritis or other sports related injuries. His surgical expertise includes fracture fixation, rotator cuff repair, shoulder stability procedures, revision shoulder surgery, as well as total shoulder replacements and reverse shoulder replacements. Dr. Srikumaran earned his M.D. from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and completed his residency in orthopaedic surgery at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. He performed a fellowship in shoulder and elbow surgery at Harvard at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA. He then pursued the prestigious European Knee Society traveling fellowship focusing on advanced surgical techniques in the management of arthritis. Dr. Thakkar’s research interests include technological advances in the treatment of arthritis, post-traumatic arthritis, the economic impact of arthritis and the optimization of hospital protocols for arthritis management. He is also interested in exploring same-day joint replacement surgery to help patients minimize time in the hospital and maximize return to function.
