Overview
Tariq Ahmad, MD, is a cardiologist who cares for men and women. He specializes in general heart care including treatment for coronary artery disease, pulmonary embolism, congenital heart defects, complex and multi-valvular conditions, peripheral vascular disease, left atrial appendage closure, mechanical circulatory support and cardiac mass or vegetation.|Dr. Ahmad has a clinical interest in interventional cardiology, structural heart disease, minimally invasive and percutaneous treatment techniques and team-based care.|“I love being a problem solver for patients with complex cardiovascular conditions, working closely with them and their families,” he says. “It’s every piece of success in this process that brings me to work every day.”|Dr. Ahmad earned his medical degree from the Allama Iqbal Medical College in Lahore, Pakistan. He then completed residencies in internal medicine at Jinnah Hospital in Lahore and at Drexel University Medical Center in Philadelphia, where he was chief resident. He completed two fellowships in Pennsylvania — the first in cardiology at the Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey and the second in structural interventional cardiology at Lankenau Medical Center in Wynnewood.|He is an active member of several professional organizations including the American College of Physicians, Pennsylvania Medical Society, Society of Hospital Medicine and Society of General Internal Medicine. He’s a fellow of the American College of Cardiology.|Dr. Ahmad is an accomplished researcher and speaker who has contributed to many research projects and presented at numerous cardiovascular conferences in the U.S. and Canada.|In 2019, Dr. Ahmad received the Gerald Luck, MD, Fellow EKG Award for excellence during a cardiovascular fellowship. In 2018, he received the Best Resident/Fellow Quality Improvement Project Award. He has received several other awards for excellence in medical research.|“I was the first one in my family to become a physician,” he notes. “My father’s friend, who was a general cardiologist, was my inspiration. I watched him taking care of sick patients on daily basis, and the respect he always received in return can’t be explained in words. Once I joined medical school, cardiovascular physiology fascinated me right from the start, and it’s only grown stronger with time.”|In his spare time, Dr. Ahmad enjoys spending time with his wife, three children and friends and playing sports — especially cricket.
