Dr. James Stephen Jenkins, MD, FACC, FSCAI, FSVM, is the section head of Interventional and Structural Cardiology, director of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, and director of Interventional Cardiology Research at the John Ochsner Heart and Vascular Institute at Ochsner Medical Center – New Orleans. He also serves as an associate professor of Medicine at the University of Queensland – Ochsner Clinical School in New Orleans.Dr. Jenkins is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Cardiovascular Disease (2028) and Interventional Cardiology (2030), as well as by the American Board of Vascular Medicine in Endovascular Intervention (2027).Throughout his career, Dr. Jenkins has been actively involved in cardiovascular translational research, which began during his fellowship at the University of Missouri in Columbia. There, he conducted coronary artery atherosclerosis research using a swine model, resulting in numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals. Currently, he continues his research collaborations with both Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center and Tulane University Health Sciences Center, contributing to multiple research initiatives supported by institutional and government grants. His extensive experience in both human and animal models of atherosclerotic disease—including acute myocardial infarction, hypertension, peripheral artery disease, and coronary artery disease—positions him as a leading expert in the diagnosis and treatment of these conditions at Ochsner Medical Center – New Orleans.Dr. Jenkins specializes in interventional cardiology, performing a wide range of coronary, peripheral, and structural interventions, including procedures involving the mitral, tricuspid, pulmonic and aortic valves; septal defects; left atrial appendage; carotid arteries; renal artery denervation; and venous interventions.A distinguished leader in his field, Dr. Jenkins is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC), the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI), and the Society for Vascular Medicine (FSVM).
