Dr. Wuwei W. Feng
Overview
I am the division chief for Stroke and Vascular Neurology in the Department of Neurology at Duke Health. I see stroke patient in the emergency department, inpatient service as well as in the outpatient clinic. I also treated post-stroke limb spasticity, a disabling complication after stroke. In addition to the patient care, I also run a brain modulation and stroke recovery lab at the Duke University campus to study stroke patients in my lab to develop new stroke recovery therapy. On my days off, my boys and I are big on fishing. I enjoy drinking and collecting tea. As a stroke doctor, I do not drink coffee at all (there is a reason for it). Clinical Research
Clinical research consists of overseeing clinical studies of patients undergoing new treatments and therapies, and publishing articles in peer reviewed medical journals. I am currently the chief of the division of Epilepsy, Sleep, and Clinical Neurophysiology. I see epilepsy patients and patients with sleep disorders. The epilepsy patients that I see often have a hard time controlling their seizures or have other epilepsy-related problems. At Duke, we have many options, including clinical trials, advanced medications, and surgical options, that we can offer patients to get them to a better quality of life with fewer or no seizures. In sleep disorders, I see many patients with sleep apnea and have a passion for treating individuals with narcolepsy. My philosophy is that I want patients to be aware of all the different treatment options that they have available this them. Together, we come up with what I, the patient, and the family think is the best approach for the individual. This way, we can individualize the treatment for each person. It is very gratifying for me to see patients doing so much better with the appropriate medications and pursuing the dreams they have and doing the things they really want to do.
