Dr. Matthew M. Musulin

I have been a faculty member at Duke for 30 years, specializing in the care of patients with epilepsy or sleep disorders. During that time, I have seen tremendous progress in the treatments available in both areas, and I remain excited about being able to provide those advances to my patients. I have also recently gained a personal perspective, having been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea, and becoming a dedicated CPAP user myself. As a general neurologist, I see and treat patients with a variety of neurological problems. During my residency at Duke I became particularly interested in seizure disorders, and completed a clinical neurophysiology fellowship focused on the diagnosis and management of epilepsy. I work with my patients to create a treatment plan that addresses and emphasizes their values. My goal is to make each patient feel heard and provide them with the best possible care. During my neurology and neurophysiology training at Duke, I developed an abiding fondness for my colleagues and patients, so it was an easy decision to stay on as an attending physician. I have the privilege of working with patients in both the hospital and clinic. As a hospital neurologist, my interests are in the diagnosis and treatment of acute neurologic problems, such as seizures, head injuries, infections, and autoimmune conditions. My outpatient practice focuses on the treatment of epilepsy in patients with hard-to-control seizures. In both the hospital and clinic, I have the pleasure of working with the excellent medical students, residents, and fellows of Duke University Hospital, along with nationally and internationally recognized colleagues.
