Zachary Hurst, M.D. provides orthopedic care to patients in our Evans, Augusta Downtown and Aiken locations. As a fellowship-trained joint replacement surgeon, Dr. Hurst specializes in hip and knee replacements including partial knee replacements, total knee replacements, anterior and posterior hip replacements, complex primary and revision replacement surgeries. In addition to standard joint replacements, he has over 5 years of experience using robotic assistance. Partnering with Piedmont he has helped bring robotic technology to the CSRA so that patients no longer need to travel out of town for advanced orthopedic care.Dr. Hurst obtained his undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering from Kettering University in Flint, Michigan where he received the president's medal and summa cum laude. He worked as a mechanical engineer for a medical device company analyzing failed hip implants and re-designing new hip implant systems before continuing his education. He then received his Doctor of Medicine from the Ohio State University School of Medicine. Dr. Hurst went on to complete his residency in Orthopedic Surgery at the Nation's second busiest joint replacement center, Beaumont Hospital, in Royal Oak, Michigan. He then completed additional specialization in complex and revision joint replacements through a fellowship at University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. Due to his background and specialized training, Dr. Hurst serves as a reviewer for orthopedic literature prior to its publication in orthopedic medical journals.Dr. Hurst is passionate about community involvement and giving back. He has participated in medical missions trips in Guatemala and as engineer he led a clean water project through Engineers Without Borders in a small community in south Africa. He is excited to become involved in the local community and serve the CSRA. In his free time, he enjoys carpentry and working on projects, he is an avid runner, and he enjoys spending time outdoors.
