
Overview
Mohamed G. Atta, MD, MPH, is Professor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland and Director of Von Hippel Lindau Clinical Care Center at Hopkins. A graduate of Mansoura University School of Medicine in Egypt, he completed his internship and residency training in various locations including the Urology and Nephrology Center at Mansoura University, Cabrini Medical Center in New York, and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Atta received his MPH degree from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in 2005. He authored or co-authored numerous articles published in Genomics, the Journal of Biological Chemistry, Journal of clinical investigation, Clinical Infectious Disease, Circulation, Stem Cells Translational Medicine, American Journal of Medicine, and American Journal of Transplantation, Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, American Journal of Kidney Disease, Nephrology Dialysis Transplantation, and Kidney International, among others.

The Johns Hopkins Hospital
Dr. Crews is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Nephrology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She holds faculty appointments with the School of Nursing, the Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology and Clinical Research, the Center on Aging and Health, and the Center for Health Equity, where she is Deputy Director. Her research program aims to advance equity in kidney disease and hypertension outcomes by focusing on social drivers of health inequities. An elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, Dr. Crews has received numerous awards for her research contributions, including the 2018 Johns Hopkins University President’s Frontier Award--a $250,000 award granted to a single faculty scholar on the cusp of transforming their field. She is a former National Academy of Medicine (NAM) Emerging Leader Scholar and was the inaugural Gilbert S. Omenn Anniversary Fellow of the NAM. In 2019, Dr. Crews received the W. Lester Henry Award for Diversity and Access to Care from the American College of Physicians and the Distinguished Leader Award from the American Society of Nephrology. Dr. Crews is the founding director of the Doctoral Diversity Program, a 2-year, research-intensive post-baccalaureate program of the Johns Hopkins Initiative for Careers in Science and Medicine. Dr. Crews received her undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia and her medical degree from Saint Louis University. A graduate of the Osler Medical Training Program, she completed nephrology fellowship and a master’s in clinical epidemiology degree at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Bernard Jaar is an associate professor of medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He holds a joint appointment in epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. His areas of clinical expertise include chronic kidney disease and all dialysis modalities. Dr. Jaar earned his M.D. from Faculte de Medecine et de Pharmacie of the State University of Haiti. He completed nephrology training at Hopitaux de Paris (Hopital Tenon, Hopital Saint Antoine, Hopital Saint Louis) University of Paris V, France. He subsequently completed an internal medicine residency at Graduate Hospital in Philadelphia and a nephrology fellowship at the Johns Hopkins Hospital, in addition to a post-doctoral fellowship in Epidemiology and a Master in Public Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. His research interests include epidemiology of chronic kidney disease and end-stage kidney disease, particularly survival in dialysis patients, peripheral arterial disease and environmental risk factors for kidney disease. Dr. Jaar was recognized with the C. Lockard Conley Award 2021 by the American College of Physician Maryland Chapter for contributions to resident education / research and the National Kidney Foundation Garabed Eknoyan Award 2022 for promoting the mission of NKF in making the lives of people with kidney disease better. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the International Society of Nephrology, American Society of Nephrology, National Kidney Foundation, American College of Physicians and the International Society of Peritoneal dialysis.
