Overview
My practice centers on the care of patients with digestive diseases. My particular area of interest and expertise is inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), including ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. I find my work with patients very rewarding since we now have many more treatment options for patients with IBD and there are more innovations on the horizon. For me, the most important aspect of being a physician is to develop an honest, trust-based relationship with patients which allows us to work together. When I'm not seeing patients, I enjoy travel, movies, museums, reading and growing tropical plants.

Clinical research consists of overseeing clinical studies of patients undergoing new treatments and therapies, and publishing articles in peer reviewed medical journals. Within my field of gastroenterology, I have a special interest in acute and chronic liver disease and short gut syndrome. Many of my patients require a liver and / or small bowel transplant and it is extremely rewarding to see the improvement in their health and quality of life after this happens. These patients have to be followed long term and I think that it is extremely important for them and their families to have a good understanding of their disease and what I am thinking regarding their treatment and management options. Having said this, I think that having good communication is a key component of my relationship with patients as a physician.
