He went on to fly the F-15C as a mission commander based out of Kadena AB, Japan, and was awarded the Air Medal for over 100 hours of combat time patrolling the Northern No Fly Zone over Iraq during the events of September 11, 2001.Following his aviation career, Lt Col Henderson pursued medicine, earning his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in 2006. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Uniformed Health Education Consortium in San Antonio and a fellowship in Hand and Microvascular Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center. Since 2012, he has served at the U.S. Air Force Academy, where he has held leadership roles as Chief of Hand Surgery, Chief of Orthopedic Surgery, and Chief of Surgery for the 10th Medical Group.
