Dr. Sarwahi, heads the Center for Minimally Invasive Scoliosis Surgery and the Center for Advanced Pediatric Orthopedics at Cohens Children s Medical Center, which brings together a dedicated team of fellowship-trained Scoliosis surgeons, neurologists, anesthesiologists, hospitalists, nursing staff and others in state of the art treatment of scoliosis. Dr. Amaral is an Associate Chief of Pediatric Orthopaedic Surgery at Cohen s Childrens Medical Center and an Assistant Professor of Pediatric Orthopaedics at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. He focuses on scoliosis and pediatric spine surgery, hip reconstruction, fractures, sports medicine, and pediatric foot and ankle disorders.Dr. Amaral received his undergraduate degree at the University of Rhode Island and his medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University in the Bronx, NY. He completed his internship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University/ Montefiore Medical Center and fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery/New York Hospital/ Weill Medical College of Cornell University in New York, NY.He is a fellow of the Scoliosis Research Society, Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery. David A. Essig, MD is an Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. He has clinical interests in spinal deformity surgery, spinal infections, spine trauma, metastatic spinal disease, and degenerative conditions of the adult spine.He received a BA in Molecular Biochemistry and Biophysics and Economics from Yale University. He has also completed the AOA/USC APEX Leadership Program through the University of Southern California, Marshall School of Business.Dr. Essig is a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, North American Spine Society, AO Spine, and the Scoliosis Research Society. Dr. Essig was also elected by his peers to the American Orthopaedic Association, a prestigious national society for leadership. He currently serves on the AOA Own the Bone (OTB) Education Subcommittee, and is an active member of the Spinopelvic Study Group. He has been an invited reviewer for multiple journals, and is currently on the editorial board of the Asian Journal of Spine. He has multiple publications in peer-reviewed journals, along with multiple presentations at prestigious spine society meetings. He also serves as a spine consultant for the New York Islanders.
