Dr. John P. Middleton
Overview
I am a nephrologist at Duke University with over 20 years of experience as a clinician, clinical researcher, and mentor. In my outpatient practice, I take care of patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). In my hospital work, I evaluate and care for patients with acute kidney injury and with electrolyte disorders. In clinical research, I am experienced in serving on steering committees for multicenter clinical trials in CKD, including work with National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded trials -- the African American Study of Kidney Disease and Hypertension (AASK), the AASK Cohort Study, the Dialysis Access Consortium, and the Focal Segmental Glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) treatment trial. I recently joined the steering committee for the NIDDK consortium, pilot studies of candidate therapies for CKD. I am active in multiple industry-sponsored clinical trials. I am a member of the executive committee for the Collaborative Study Group, a consortium that has implemented several successful clinical trials in nephrology.
