Dr. Perrella is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and an Associate Physician in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, and a research scientist in Pediatric Newborn Medicine, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He is an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation, and is a National Institutes of Health (NIH) funded investigator. Dr. Perrella is also committed to the training and career development of students, postdoctoral fellows, and junior faculty. He is an Associate Director of an NIH-funded grant for training physician scientists in respiratory research. In regard to scientific investigation, the Perrella laboratory is interested in the regulation and biology of genes important for the modulation of inflammation in systemic disease processes, and the use of stem/progenitor cells for therapy of critical illnesses including sepsis, lung injury, and heart failure. The ultimate goal of his laboratory is to develop novel cell-based strategies for the treatment of cardiopulmonary and vascular diseases for patients of all ages, from premature infants to adults.
