After his residency training, he completed fellowship training in neurocritical care and acute stroke at Drexel University College of Medicine and became a faculty member in the neurocritical care and acute stroke division. He then returned to Panama for two years where he was the first to treat patients with IV thrombolytic therapy for acute stroke.
