Dr. Joseph J. Giovinazzo
Overview
Joseph J. Giovinazzo, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a board certified specialist in orthopaedic surgery and sports medicine. As a fellowship-trained sports medicine specialist, he specializes in operative and non-operative treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. He was recognized by Castle Connolly for his excellence in Sports Medicine and awarded Regional Top Doctor 2019-2021 and Top Doctor NY Metro Area 2019-2021.
Dr. Giovinazzo attended St. Peter s College in Jersey City, NJ where he graduated Magna Cum Laude. After graduation, he completed his Research Project under Dr. Gilani for the Department of Anatomy at the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey. For medical school, he attended Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC. He completed his residency in Orthopaedic and General Surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. In Philadelphia, he obtained sub-specialty Sports Medicine fellowship training at the Graduate Hospital, an affiliate of the University of Pennsylvania, under the tutelage of Dr. Vincent DiStefano, team physician for the Philadelphia Eagles of 15 years, and Dr. John Gregg, team physician for the Philadelphia Flyers of 10 years. Dr. Giovinazzo s sports coverage included Villanova University and Valley Forge Military Academy.
Dr. Giovinazzo is fellowship trained in Sports Medicine and General Orthopaedic Surgery with special attention to utilizing innovative methods to promote better surgical outcomes. He has presented at Orthopaedic surgery conferences in Louisiana, New York, Colorado and Canada with special attention to the treatment and outcomes of femur fractures and shoulder repairs. In conjunction with his tenure at Healthcare Associates in Medicine, a division of Orlin & Cohen Medical Specialists Group, Dr. Giovinazzo served as team physician for the Staten Island Yankees minor league team, the Class A Short Season affiliate of the New York Yankees. He continues to serve as team physician for Wagner College, and several high schools: Monsignor Farrell, St. Joseph by the Sea, Port Richmond, Staten Island Technical, Poly Prep, and Moore Catholic. Additionally, Dr. Giovinazzo is a consultant for Carmel Richmond Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center and Eger Health Care Center.
