Overview
Dr. Brian Holly is an assistant professor of radiology and radiological science. Dr. Holly's clinical focus lies in venous thromboembolic disease. He specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of deep venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, post thrombotic syndrome; advanced venous interventions including prostatic artery embolization (PAE); IVC filter removal; treatment of vascular malformations; treatment of uterine fibroids and advanced biliary interventions. Dr. Holly received his M.D. from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in 2007. He completed an internship in internal medicine at Mercy Medical Center in 2008. He completed residency in radiology in 2012 at the University of Maryland Medical Center. This was followed by a fellowship in vascular and interventional radiology in 2013 at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. He is a member of the Society of Interventional Radiology. He has specific interest in complex IVC filter removals, interventional oncology, pulmonary embolism, and prostate artery embolization. In addition to standard IVC filter retrievals, he removes devices that are severely tilted, embedded, or fractured, as well as those designated as permanent devices. Within interventional oncology, Dr. Akman performs thermal ablation of lung, liver, and kidney tumors. He performs chemoembolization and radioembolization (Yttrium-90) on primary liver cancer and metastatic liver disease. Dr. Akman also performs prostate artery embolization, an emerging minimally invasive technique for treating urinary symptoms associated with prostate enlargement. Dr. Akman prides himself on building strong relationships with his patients and practicing patient-centered medicine.
