Dr. Anne Louise-Marano
Overview
My clinical interests include general dermatology and autoimmune skin disease. In particular, I am interested in seeing patients with cutaneous lupus erythematosus, vasculitis, and dermatomyositis. I participate in clinical research in autoimmune skin disease in order to better care for these patients. My practice style is to work together with the patient to find the best treatment for the patient’s symptoms and lifestyle. For example, spending time to discuss everyday sun protection strategies with a cutaneous lupus patient can make all of the difference in preventing flares. In addition, I enjoy screening for skin cancer since I also have a background in oncology research. I aim to not only diagnose and treat skin cancers but to identify prevention methods as well. On a personal note, I am a former Duke undergraduate, Duke medical student, and Duke resident, so I can honestly attest to my commitment to serving the Triangle community.

After graduating from college, I was awarded a Fulbright fellowship and moved to Dublin, Ireland to work for the European Institute of Women’s Health. Shuffling between Birmingham and Boston for my medical training, I have settled in beautiful North Carolina with my husband who is a fellow in Hematology/Oncology at the University of North Carolina. We are enjoying the cultural richness of the Triangle area and the diverse landscape of North Carolina. Being a part of Duke’s amazing medical community has allowed me to pursue my clinical interest in complex medical dermatology and my translational research interest in neutrophilic skin diseases such as psoriasis and hidradenitis suppurativa. I am actively working on projects that focus on antibody-based therapies targeting immune dysregulation in skin disease. The most gratifying experiences for me as a physician have been providing treatment and support to patients struggling with skin diseases and contributing to improvements in their overall quality of life. In my spare time, I enjoy hiking, painting and making jewelry. Dr. Jaleel is rated as a Distinguished provider by MediFind in the treatment of Vitiligo.
