Dr. Lauring received a PhD in molecular biology in 2000, followed by an MD in 2002, both from the University of Washington. He did his graduate work on retroviral pathogenesis at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. Dr. Lauring completed a medical residency and infectious diseases fellowship at UCSF., where he also served as Chief Medical Resident. He joined the faculty at the University of Michigan Medical School in August 2012 and runs a research laboratory focused on virus evolution.
