
Overview
Dr. Racusin received his undergraduate degree with high honors from the University of California at Santa Barbara. He received his medical degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine in Bronx, New York. He completed his orthopedic surgery training at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. After completing his training, Dr. Racusin served for 4 years as an active-duty US Army orthopedic surgeon at Fort Hood. During this time, he deployed to Afghanistan and served at a forward surgical team in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Dr. Racusin was honorably discharged from the military in 2014. He then completed a yearlong sports medicine and arthroscopy fellowship in San Diego, CA. He is board-certified in orthopedic surgery and has also obtained subspecialty training in sports medicine and arthroscopy. He has a particular interest in complex shoulder problems and shoulder replacement. Dr. Racusin uses robot-assisted technology to perform minimally invasive surgery. Upon completion of residency in 1998, he moved to Royal Oak, Michigan, where he completed a fellowship in Spine Surgery under Dr. Harry Herkowitz at the William Beaumont Hospital Spine Center. Dr. Truumees entered clinical practice in 1999 joining Drs. Herkowitz and Fischgrund at the Michigan Orthopaedic Institute. In October 2010, Dr. Truumees relocated to Austin, Texas.His academic work has included more than 15 NIH and industry sponsored multicenter trials, which generated over 30 peer reviewed publications of original research, 40 invited publications, and 50 chapters and monographs. He was editor of the AAOS Orthopaedic Knowledge Update Spine, 5th and 6th Editions. Dr. Truumees frequently participates in national and international events, including more than 200 presentations, lectureships, and instructorships.Dr. Truumees’ honors include membership in the American Orthopaedic Association and Detroit Hour Magazine and Texas Monthly “Top Doctor” status. Others include the American Academic of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) Senior Achievement Awards and membership in Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
