Dr. Adel D. Irani earned his medical degree at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. He completed his internship and residency at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital Center and Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and a fellowship at St Luke's Roosevelt Hospital Center and McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). Dr. Irani, who has been in practice since 1989, is board certified in general surgery and thoracic surgery and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. His clinical interests include cardiothoracic surgery, aortic surgery (including dissection and aneurysms), minimally invasive valve repair and replacement, robotic surgery, minimally invasive cardiac surgery (including off-pump coronary artery bypass surgery), surgery for atrial fibrillation, cardiac assist devices and cardiac transplantation. He has special training and certification in numerous surgical devices and techniques including robotic systems, cardiac assist devices, minimally invasive cardiac surgery, valve repair and replacement (including minimally invasive valve surgery), port access surgery, atrial rhythm surgery, beating heart surgery and video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery. An assistant professor of cardiothoracic and vascular surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth, Dr. Irani also lectures nationwide and publishes in the areas of aortic aneurysm repair, thoracic surgery and cardiac surgery.

His clinical interests include robotic mitral repair and replacement; robotic coronary arterial bypass; robotic MAZE procedures; robotic aortic valve replacement; right anterior thoracotomy; ascending aortic replacement and myectomies; transcatheter approaches, including transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) and transcatheter mitral valve replacement (TMVR). He is also a recognized expert in surgical heart failure and transplantation, including mechanical circulatory support. Dr.Ramzy is the chief of cardiac surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston and the medical director and surgical director for the Heart & Vascular Institute at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center. Author of more than 115 peer-reviewed publications and more than 200 abstracts, he also serves as an editorial board member for The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.
