Dr. Alan J. Rechter graduated magna cum laude from Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska. He completed his internship in general surgery and residency in orthopedic surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth in Houston, where he served as chief resident. He then completed an AO International Fellowship in Germany focusing on trauma, hand and joint reconstructive surgery. Board certified in orthopedics and orthopedic sports medicine, Dr. Rechter has practiced medicine in Houston since 1995. His practice encompasses all aspects of orthopedic surgery and his clinical interests include sports injuries, joint replacement, trauma, pediatrics and hand surgery. Dr. Rechter serves on the faculty of McGovern Medical School. Dr. Rechter strives to provide the best treatment for his patients using state-of-the-art facilities. His research, teaching and clinical activity have earned Dr. Klineberg an international reputation in spinal deformity surgery. Author of over then 300 publications and book chapters, he also edited Adult Lumbar Scoliosis, A Clinical Guide to Diagnosis and Management and is a principal or co-principal investigator for more than a half-dozen clinical studies. His major research interests are enhancement of spinal fusion with stem cells and proteins and spinal deformity and outcomes. He serves on the board of directors of the Scoliosis Research Society and on the executive committee of the International Spine Study Group. He is also the North American Chair of AO Spine, a global academic community that promotes excellence in education, research, patient care and outcomes.
