I chose to specialize in neurocritical care because the nervous system is both fascinating and highly important to the quality of lives of patients. As a neurocritical care physician, I am capable of caring for patients in the intensive care unit with traumatic brain injury, stroke, bleeding, infections and spinal cord injuries. My approach is to treat all patients with the care and respect I'd like for my own family. I understand the importance of communicating clearly with patients and their families and believe in regular family discussions. After serving 12 years of active duty in the Army and achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, I am happy to be back home in Minnesota and working with HealthPartners. During much of my time in the Army, I was stationed at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany, where I had the honor of treating wounded soldiers and their family members. This experience gave me a unique set of clinical and leadership skills and contributed to my interest in brain trauma and stroke. Outside of work, I like to spend as much time as possible with my wife, two children and our pet dog. We enjoy biking, hiking, kayaking, boating, camping and snow skiing.
