Dr. Daniel L. Kirkpatrick is a Clinical Assistant Professor of Vascular and Interventional Radiology at the University of Michigan. Dr. Kirkpatrick earned his medical degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine. He completed his radiology residency at the University of Kansas School of Medicine and went on to complete a fellowship in Vascular and Interventional Radiology at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.Dr. Kirkpatrick specializes in complex IVC filter retrieval and has experience using forceps- and laser-assisted techniques to remove IVC filters with prolonged dwell times. He has a special interest in acute and chronic venous disease, arteriovenous malformations, embolization, biliary disease, and interventional endoscopy. He is a sub-investigator for several ongoing clinical trials for devices intended to treat chronic venous occlusions.Dr. Kirkpatrick is heavily involved in trainee education. Shortly after joining the University of Michigan, he was appointed as the Director of Medical Student Education for Interventional Radiology and is the Director of the annual University of Michigan IR Medical Student Symposium. He is an active member of the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) and is a reviewer for the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology (JVIR) and Academic Radiology. He has published articles in JVIR, Radiographics, and the Journal of the American College of Radiology, among others. He is a strong advocate for transgender and gender diverse people, and has published articles on transgender care in radiology.
