Dr. Elham Abbasi-Hafshejani

After Mohsen Shahpouri Arani, MD, FACP, graduated Summa Cum Laude at the top of his class with his medical degree from the University of Debrecen’s Faculty of Medicine in Debrecen, Hungary, he moved to Atlantic City, New Jersey, where he completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center. He went on to complete a geriatrics fellowship with the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, which is now Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences, in Piscataway Township. Then he completed training in hematology and medical oncology with a fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Board certified in internal medicine, hematology and medical oncology, Dr. Arani has been practicing medicine in the United States since 1998. In 2006, he named Citizen of the Year by the Gettysburg Chamber of Commerce in South Dakota. During his residency, Dr. Arani received the Scholastic Achievement Award for outstanding scores on the National Internal Medicine In-Training Examinations, as well as the Resident of the Year Award for outstanding performance, leadership and initiative. He also was honored with the James F. Gleason, MD, Resident Teacher Award for contributing the most to the overall teaching of fellow residents. During his education in Hungary, Dr. Arani received the Hungarian Academy of Science’s Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship Scholarship Award. Eric Paul Kleinbaum, MD, completed his first year of medical courses at the Sackler Faculty of Medicine in Tel Aviv, Israel, before finishing his studies and earning his medical degree from Sidney Kimmel Medical College, formally known as Jefferson Medical School, in Philadelphia. He then moved to Houston, and completed an internal medicine residency, an internal medicine fellowship, and a hematology and medical oncology fellowship at Baylor College of Medicine. During his final fellowship, Dr. Kleinbaum actively participated and managed different oncological and hematological disorder studies. He enrolled patients in a clinical trial for hepatocellular carcinoma and worked with patients enrolled in breast oncology clinical trials. He also worked with many national experts in the fields of breast oncology, stem cell transplantation, myeloproliferative disorders and benign hematology. In addition, Dr. Kleinbaum was afforded the opportunity to complete elective rotations at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in sarcoma, genitourinary oncology and gastroenterological oncology. As chief fellow, he participated in the development of the academic curricula for the fellowship program. Board certified in internal medicine, medical oncology and hematology, Dr. Kleinbaum treats all types of tumors and specializes in breast, gastrointestinal (GI) and lung tumors and cancers. He has a special interest in gastrointestinal malignancies and gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST). He contributed a chapter in a published surgical oncology textbook describing a family with hereditary GIST syndrome and made the first set of screening recommendations for members of families affected with this cancer.
