Dr. Jennifer M. Jones

After receiving my M.D. and Ph.D. at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, I came to the University of Michigan for residency training in Anatomic Pathology. During my residency and subsequent Dermatopathology fellowship, I became interested in mechanistic studies of cutaneous and soft-tissue malignancies. Upon completion of my fellowship in June 2012, I accepted a faculty position at UMHS with joint appointments in the Departments of Dermatology and Pathology, in which I continue to investigate molecular events in the pathogenesis of Merkel cell carcinoma and other cutaneous malignancies, while maintaining clinical effort in dermatopathology and molecular dermatopathology. Dr. Dale Bixby has been practicing hematology at the University of Michigan since 2009. He was a resident in the Department of Internal Medicine and then completed fellowship training in hematology and medical oncology at the University of Michigan. Dr. Bixby is currently a clinical professor and specializes in the areas of myeloid and lymphoid leukemias, myelodysplastic syndrome and bone marrow failure disorders. Dr. Bixby currently serves as the section chief of the acute leukemia program. He is also a clinical investigator in hematological malignancies. Dr. Lauren Smith received her undergraduate degree at the University of Michigan Honors College with highest distinction in 1992. She spent four years working in a neurogenetics laboratory at the University of San Francisco with Dr. Nelson Freimer. For the next two years she worked as a manuscript editor for Dr. Donald Klein, a psychiatrist, at Columbia University. In 1998, she began medical school at the University of Michigan. She was awarded AOA in her junior year and was president of the UM AOA Chapter the following year. She completed her residency in anatomic/clinical pathology and fellowship in hematopathology from 2002-2007. In July, 2007 she began her faculty career as an Assistant Professor at the University of Michigan and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2013. She was appointed Fellowship Director in 2013. She was appointed the Director of the Ethics Path of Excellence in the University of Michigan Medical School in 2013. She became the permanent Director of the Hematopathology Section in 2016. In addition, she serves as a Hospital Ethicist at UMHS. Dr. Smith is highly rated in 29 conditions, according to our data.
