Dr. Margarita Murphy

Dr. Margarita Murphy is a board-certified colon and rectal surgeon at Orlando Health Colon and Rectal Institute with 20 years of experience. She completed a residency in general surgery at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle, where she served as chief resident in her final year, and a residency in colon and rectal surgery at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. About Dr. Murphy Dr. Murphy is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery. She is a fellow of the American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, and her professional memberships include the American College of Surgeons, International Continence Society, Piedmont Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons. She also is a founding member of the Latin American Society of Pelvic Floor and an initial collaborator and member of the International Pelvic Floor Consortium. She received honorary membership in the Mexican Society of Surgeons of Rectum, Colon and Anus. She relocated from Charleston, South Carolina, where she was voted best colon and rectal surgeon in Mount Pleasant and/or Charleston nine of the past 10 years. Dr. Murphy has presented her research extensively in Colombia, Egypt, Mexico, Italy, Brazil, Portugal and Argentina, as well as at the Harvard University School of Medicine. Her work has been published in textbooks and peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Murphy serves as a medical student and physician assistant educator at the Medical University of South Carolina, Presbyterian College and Charleston Southern University. She is considered an international expert in the treatment of fecal incontinence and pelvic floor disorders. Dr. Murphy was honored as an InterStim Center of Excellence for the treatment of fecal incontinence, overactive bladder and urinary retention. She regularly gives symposiums and has trained hundreds of surgeons from all over the world in this technology. Dr. Murphy also has a special interest in the treatment of complex pilonidal disease. Outside of work, she enjoys volunteering with her church, Girl Scouts and medical missions.
