Dr. Michael G. Svestka

Robert Keating, MD, is currently a McCullough distinguished professor, interim senior vice president, Neuroscience and Behavioral Medicine Center and chief of Neurosurgery at Children’s National Hospital. A graduate of Georgetown University Medical School, he completed a neurosurgery residency and fellowship in pediatric neurosurgery/craniofacial surgery at the Albert Einstein and Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx, NY. Following his training, Dr. Keating served in the U.S. Navy and was stationed at the Oakland Naval Hospital serving as the chief from 1991-1994. After his time in the Navy, he returned to the Bronx where he was on staff at Montefiore Medical Center as well as the Bronx Municipal Hospital Center for two years before coming back to Washington, D.C., in 1996 to join the faculty at Children’s National Dr. Keating's past appointments include the president of the medical staff at Children’s National, as well as head of credentials. He currently maintains a busy practice of pediatric neurosurgery, with an emphasis on tumors, Chiari malformations, craniofacial reconstruction, spinal dysraphism, spasticity and brachial plexus surgery. As a member of the American Society of Pediatric Neurosurgery and International Society of Pediatric Neurosurgery, he has published and presented extensively in the field. His publications include the previous texts, “An Atlas of Orbitocranial Surgery” and “Tumors of the Pediatric Nervous System” (2nd edition published in 2013), with current work on Neurosurgical Operative Atlas, (2nd ed. Goodrich JT, and Keating RF, Thieme) due for publication in 2018. He is also chair, medical advisory committee on the Board of the American Syringomyelia Alliance Project as well as a founding member of the Posterior Fossa Society and maintains long-standing membership in the CNS, AANS, ASPN and ISPN. Gary F. Rogers, MD, JD, LLM, MBA, MPH, is an academic pediatric plastic surgeon, the Johnston Family professor of pediatric plastic surgery and chief of the Division of Pediatric Plastic Surgery at Children’s National Hospital. A native of California, he earned his undergraduate education at UCLA in 1987 and matriculated at Tulane University School of Medicine. During the next four years, he completed three concurrent graduate degrees: a degree in medicine with honors (Alpha Omega Alpha), a Masters of Business Administration (1988-1991; A.B. Freeman School of Business) and a Masters of Public Health (1990-1991; Tulane University School of Public Health). Between 1991 and 1997, he completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill (1991-1996) while attaining a law degree (JD) from the University of North Carolina, School of Law (1993-1997). His subsequent training included a plastic surgery residency from University of Tennessee, Chattanooga, fellowships in pediatric plastic/craniofacial surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital/Harvard and orthopaedic hand and microsurgery from Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard (2001-2002). From 2002-2010, Dr. Rogers was a faculty member of the Division of Plastic and Oral Surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital and he held an academic appointment at Harvard Medical School. During this time, he co-invented two medical devices designed to prevent plagiocephaly. In 2010, Dr. Rogers joined Children’s National as the Chief of Pediatric Plastic Surgery. He is a Professor of Surgery and Pediatrics at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Dr. Rogers completed a Masters in Law (LL.M.) focusing on healthcare law from the George Washington School of Law in 2016 and is currently a student in the Masters of Applied Economics program at the George Washington University Columbian College of Arts and Science. Dr. Rogers holds a subspecialty board certification in hand surgery (CAQHS) from the American Board of Plastic Surgery. He has authored more than 170 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. He has also lectured at numerous regional, national and international meetings. He and his wife of 23 years, Wendy, have four children and live in Great Falls, Virginia.
