Dr. Petros Karakousis is a Professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He has joint appointments in Molecular Microbiology & Immunology and International Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. After completing fellowship training in infectious diseases at Johns Hopkins, he joined the Department of Medicine faculty in 2005. His research interests include tuberculosis pathogenesis, Mycobacterium tuberculosis persistence and antibiotic tolerance, host-pathogen interactions and host-directed therapies. Dr. Karakousis was named a Fellow of the Infectious Diseases Society of America in 2010, and was elected to the American Society for Clinical Investigation in 2021. He has held numerous leadership positions, including in the Working Group on New TB Drugs of the Stop TB Partnership. He has served on the editorial board of various scientific journals and on numerous NIH study sections, and as a peer reviewer for many international government and private funding agencies.

She currently serves as the director of the Johns Hopkins Clinical Research Scholars Program and is Deputy Director of the Johns Hopkins Institute for Clinical and Translational Research. She has mentored undergraduate, public health and medical students, trainees, and junior faculty on infectious diseases and health services projects.
