Dr. Haefner is the Harold A. Furlong Professor in Women's Health and the Chief of the Division of Gynecology at the University of Michigan. She completed medical school, an obstetrics and gynecology residency, and a gynecologic pathology fellowship at the University of Michigan. Dr. Haefner is the past president of the International Society for the Study of Vulvovaginal Disease and the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology. Dee Fenner, MD, is the Chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Bates Professor of Diseases of Women and Children at the University of Michigan. She is nationally recognized as an expert in defecation disorders, surgical education, and reconstructive surgery.She is the past President of the Association of Professors of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American Urogynecologic Society. As Director of the Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery Board for the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the American Board of Urology, she was instrumental in obtaining official recognition of the Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery from the American Board of Medical Subspecialties.Dr. Fenner has received numerous awards for her contributions as a physician surgeon, educator, and leader. Most notably, in 2011 she was awarded the “Continence Champion” by the National Association for Continence, and in 2014 she was given the Sarah Goddard Award by the University of Michigan for leadership in the advancement of women. In 2015 she was recognized with the Life Time Achievement Award by the American Urogynecologic Society and in 2017 she received the prestigious Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics Lifetime Achievement Award. Most recently, Dr. Fenner was recognized for her leadership in the advancement of women in academic medicine with the 2019 Rudi Ansbacher Leadership Award for Support of Women in Healthcare. Dr. Lieberman received a BA from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio and an M.D. from The Uniform Services, University of Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. He completed an internship and residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the United States Air Force Medical Center, Keesler Airforce Base (Mississippi). Following an overseas tour of duty with the USAF, in 1990 he initiated residency training in Anatomic Pathology at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland and subsequently completed a Fellowship in Gynecologic Pathology at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology in Washington, D.C.Dr. Lieberman served as a physician with the U.S. Air Force, Medical Corps from 1979-1996. During this period he served as Chief of Obstetrics & Gynecology at RAF Upper Heyford in the United Kingdom, was appointed Adjunct Clinical Instructor of Pathology and Assistant Professor of Pathology at the Uniformed Services of Health Sciences in Bethesda. Upon retirement from the U.S. Air Force, Dr. Lieberman joined the faculty at the University of Michigan Medical School as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Departments of Pathology and Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1997.Dr. Lieberman is board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Anatomic Pathology.
