Overview
I was told when I was young that, if you have work that you truly enjoy, you will never feel that you have worked a day in your life. As I shadowed many physicians before entering the medical profession, I realized that they worked very hard with very long hours, but loved every minute of it. Most really felt like they were following a calling, not going to work. Now, I can say I feel the same way. It is wonderful to help someone return to an active lifestyle or to help share their burden when they are injured or very ill. In my practice, I treat every patient with the same respect that I would give a friend or family member. Although I treat all foot and ankle conditions, I have a special interest in complex deformity correction, trauma surgery, wounds and devastating infections and arthroscopic surgery. Outside of my practice, I enjoy spending time with my family, playing country and jazz guitar and fly-fishing for trout in western Wisconsin.

My goal as a foot and ankle surgeon is to improve the health and lives of my patients by resolving their pain, restoring normal ambulation, preventing amputation, and maximizing recovery after an injury. I am particularly interested in finding the best methods to treat complex foot and ankle fractures, deformities, infections, wounds, and arthritic conditions. I also enjoy teaching these methods to podiatric medical students, foot and ankle surgery residents, and practicing surgeons. Professional leadership activities at HealthPartners allow me to focus on important aspects of health care, like patient safety in the operating room and patient experience in the clinic. I also enjoy teaching at a number of medical conferences around the country each year and assist with the management of the Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery, which is the flagship journal of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.
