
Overview
Shannon Tomita, MD, is a fellowship-trained gynecologic oncologist with Atlantic Women’s Cancer Associates, specializing in cancers of the female reproductive system. She has comprehensive clinical experience with women of all ages and applies her knowledge and skills to detect, treat, and cure cancer in her patients. With an interest in advancing women’s health, Dr. Tomita is privileged to care for women with cancer and compassionate in her approach. She is proficient in minimally invasive procedures such as gynecologic robotic and laparoscopic surgery and was the recipient of the Resident’s Achievement Award for excellence in laparoscopic surgery by the Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons. Out of the operating room, she is also skilled at administering chemotherapy as well as targeted and novel therapeutics in the treatment of gynecologic malignancies. In addition to her expertise in managing complex gynecologic cancers Dr. Tomita has collaborated on research into the early detection of gynecologic cancer, understanding the genetics of ovarian cancer, and the treatment of endometrial, ovarian, and other cancers of the female reproductive system. She is a member of the Society of Gynecological Oncology. After earning her degree from the State University of New York Downstate, Dr. Tomita completed her residency at Mount Sinai West/Mount Sinai St. Luke’s, in NYC. Following this, she spent two years in the Mount Sinai Ovarian Cancer Translational Research Lab in the Department of Genetics and Genomic Sciences, after which she pursued fellowship training at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, a program at the forefront of providing the highest level of care and robust training in gynecologic oncology. Dr. Tomita is a participating provider of the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization.
