
Overview
Dr. Simon G. Talbot is an Associate Professor of Surgery at Harvard Medical School and the Director of Hand Transplantation. He is board certified in plastic surgery and holds a subspecialty certificate in hand surgery. He specializes in general plastic surgery, hand surgery, and microsurgery. Dr. Talbot has a particular interest in hand and upper extremity trauma, cutaneous oncologic reconstruction, abdominal and perineal reconstruction, and body contouring surgery. Dr. Talbot chose a career in academic plastic surgery to provide individualized, customized care for the most difficult problems that patients and surgeons face. Dr. Talbot’s research interests include upper extremity transplantation, nerve regeneration optimization, psychosocial aspects of major extremity surgery, and device development. He is funded by the US Department of Defense and runs research in collaboration with surgeons at Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences. Administratively, Dr Talbot is the co-chair of the BWH Physicians’ Council, representing all BWH faculty. He is heavily involved in optimizing patient care through a focus on physician wellbeing: lecturing, writing, and consulting nationally.
