I am a pediatric neurologist and the director of the pediatric neurology sleep medicine program. I treat children with a variety of sleep problems, including narcolepsy, obstructive sleep apnea, and difficulty sleeping. My goal is to engage not only the patient but also the family. Oftentimes, these problems are eminently treatable and even preventable, so it’s very gratifying when I see a child who has a treatable medical disorder and see all of the other areas in the child's and family’s life that are positively affected. I believe Duke is the best place in the world to seek care for children. We pride ourselves on cutting-edge technology and research, but also on compassionate care and being able to relate to families and their needs and values. We have access to ongoing research trials, research information, drugs, and other providers in other subspecialties within the Duke system, so it’s a nice comprehensive care program here. Dr. Kansagra is highly rated in 2 conditions, according to our data. I take care of children and adolescents who have pediatric rheumatic diseases. These include juvenile idiopathic arthritis, lupus, juvenile dermatomyositis, scleroderma, and vasculitis. I take a particular interest in taking care young people who have different forms of juvenile myositis, which is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks one’s own muscles or skin. In order to be a good rheumatologist, you have to listen to the patient and the family because we don’t have a fancy test that just gives you an answer. The answers come from what the patients and their families share with me. Some of our patients are some of the most challenging and sometimes even the sickest patients, yet we can help them get them much better. For that reason, I find my work is very hopeful because I get to see young people really persevere through very tough times and achieve really amazing things in their lives. As a pediatrician, I love supporting families as their children grow on the path to good health, especially if they are living with a chronic condition such as asthma, diabetes, or autism. It is important to listen deeply in order to understand what it is that families really need. I speak Spanish and find joy in supporting families of all backgrounds and abilities. Before joining Duke Primary Care, I spent many years teaching residents. I also worked as a consultant for young adults transitioning out of the pediatric health care system. When not in the office, you might find me gardening, exploring a new hiking trail with my family, or singing in the church choir. Her top areas of expertise are Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) and Chronic Cough.

I enjoy connecting with families, whether they are first-time parents, school-aged children, or adolescents preparing to enter adulthood. I strive to bring a warm, kind presence into each interaction with my patients. "I first became interested in health care in elementary school. I enjoyed learning about how things worked in science class and decided that understanding how the human body worked would be the most fascinating experience. In medical school, we had the opportunity to ride on the “blue goose,"" a school bus converted into a mobile clinic and painted blue. This mobile clinic served impoverished rural areas in West Virginia and was sometimes the only primary care to which children in this area had access. This experience led me to a career in pediatrics. I continue to advocate for children from all backgrounds. I enjoy seeing patients of all ages, from newborns to young adults, and navigating all of the twists and turns of childhood with them. As a pediatrician, I most enjoy when parents tell me that the patient looks forward to their visit with me. I think that putting the patient and parents at ease when they enter the health care system and making it a less scary (and sometimes even fun) experience is one of the most rewarding aspects of my career. When I am not at work. I enjoy cooking, traveling, music, and hiking the trails of North Carolina with my kids, husband, and dog.".

As a pediatrician, I am entrusted to help support families raising their children from infants into young adults. I love being a part of the team that guides these patients along a road towards healthy living. I believe in teaching along this journey to engage the family in the complete process of wellness as a lifestyle. Chronic conditions, such as asthma, ADHD, diabetes, or behavioral and mental health, require me to be an excellent listener and observer. I take the time to understand the perspective of how the condition impacts the patient and their family. I find joy in making a difference, whether it is big or small. Outside of my office, my time is spent outdoors in the sunshine, at the beach with my family, or painting on a canvas.

To be entrusted with the care of a child is an honor and privilege I do not take lightly. Each child's journey to adulthood is unique and filled with surprises and challenges along the way. I strive to listen to the concerns of both patients and parents to arrive at the best diagnosis. I utilize a shared decision-making approach for treatment. I chose pediatrics because the professional relationships that develop with both patients and parents bring me joy. Children are amazingly resilient, and nothing is more fulfilling than watching a child successfully navigate illness to develop their full potential. In my free time, I enjoy exercising, reading historical fiction and biographies, and participating in outdoor activities.

As my patients learn very quickly, I am passionate about physical therapy. I truly believe that with proper nutrition and exercise the human body can heal itself of most ailments and prevent them. I became interested in physical therapy while I was in the Navy and had a major ankle injury requiring multiple surgeries and months of rehabilitation. I have now found that my favorite injuries to treat are of the foot and ankle. As a mediocre, but avid, runner, I also love to treat runners of every type. My wife, two boys, and I moved to North Carolina in 2017 and have loved every day in this great state. I enjoy running, swimming, cycling, weightlifting, and playing rugby. My hobbies include woodworking, mechanic work, and playing with my children. Most of my continuing education has been geared toward manual therapies techniques from head to toe, treating a running population, pain science education, and nutrition.

My interest in sports medicine evolved out of a love for movement. This interest, coupled with an insatiable thirst for continued learning, led me to specialize in sports medicine physical therapy. My clinical interests are simultaneously diverse and narrow, most prominently with interdisciplinary care and lower extremity injury rehabilitation. I love what I do, and have been lucky enough to let my personal and professional interests merge - with advanced trainings and specialized education for treatments of runners and female athletes. In my treatment approach, I strive to listen and be an empathetic provider, addressing individual needs and personal goals. Ultimately, I hope to not only help someone rehabilitate after an injury, but also increase their self-efficacy and confidence in movement. In addition to my clinical responsibilities, I am also involved as a teaching assistant in the Duke Doctor of Physical Therapy program. Outside of the clinic, I enjoy being active and am an avid runner, biker, and hiker. My less known skillset includes being a vegetarian/vegan chef and baker. If I'm not working or doing one of the above activities, you can find me on a walk with my partner and our golden retriever named Simba Roy Williams.

I’ve been a general pediatrician at Duke Children’s Primary Care since 2005. I was drawn to pediatrics because of the special relationships that I can build with children and their families over time. It is a great privilege to be involved in the care of a child from birth through adolescence and young adulthood. It is such a wonderful feeling when I see a patient who I have cared for since they were young graduate from high school or college. When caring for a child, I believe it is important to involve the parents or caregivers throughout all aspects of care. After all, they know their children best! Through the peaks of health to the difficulties of illness, I strive through each encounter to provide empathetic, supportive care and to be a steady resource for families. Outside of work, I love spending time with my husband and two boys. We enjoy cooking together, playing music and enjoying the outdoors.

I am a pediatrician who treats children ranging from newborns through adolescents. I’ve been at Duke for over 10 years. I believe in involving the family during each visit. At well child visits, I listen to the child’s parents so I can learn about the family’s concerns about their child’s health both now and as the child grows. For a sick visit, I try to educate the family on what’s going on and answer their questions before doing what I can to help the child get healthy. I chose pediatrics because it involves many things I enjoy, such as working with children and families, science, evidence-based medicine, and preventative care. My favorite part of my job is seeing children grow up as I treat them. I also love when I see my patients around town, being healthy and active. In my off time, I enjoy spending time with my two children, playing tennis, reading and traveling.
