I was born in Chapel Hill and grew up in the mountains of North Carolina before going to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for college and Wake Forest University for medical school, and so practicing in North Carolina came naturally. I have been practicing internal medicine in Burlington since 1999 and greatly enjoy talking to and caring for my patients, who are also my friends and neighbors. I am actively involved with health care administration at the local and regional level to try to improve how we provide health care in our community. I spend my time away from work trying to keep up with my wife and children, who are always on the go. His top areas of expertise are Hypertension, Glucocorticoid-Remediable Aldosteronism, Familial Hypertension, and Folate Deficiency.

I specialize in sleep medicine and pulmonary medicine. In sleep medicine, we are looking at patients with sleep-disordered breathing and other conditions, such as narcolepsy. It’s a fairly common problem and causes so many other symptoms that many times it is missed. A lot of patients may experience fatigue, trouble falling asleep, daytime sleepiness, and loud snoring, and the spouse may observe stoppages in breathing. Patients may also experience difficulty concentrating, acid reflux, headaches, erectile dysfunction, high blood pressure, and even cardiac issues. My job is to diagnose sleep disorders so we can resolve these issues. I also practice pulmonary medicine, mostly treating patients with COPD. I try to put myself in the patient’s shoes. That approach works well and helps me get a better feel for what my patient may be going through. My favorite part is meeting people, getting to know them and becoming a detective as to what is going on and how I can fix it. That technical approach gives me great satisfaction. His top areas of expertise are Familial Hypertension, Hypertension, Glucocorticoid-Remediable Aldosteronism, and Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.

My path to becoming a doctor was nontraditional. After two years of college, I bought a family photography business and worked with my wife in the studio. Ten years later, the studio was asked to do the photography for a marketing campaign for the local hospital. Listening to the stories of patients and doctors in the campaign inspired me to pursue a career in medicine. My journey through medical school led me to pursue internal medicine as a specialty. I love that it gives me the ability to treat a wide range of medical problems and feel that it plays an important part in helping me to care for my patient’s overall health needs. My wife and I were high school sweethearts growing up in Georgia and have enjoyed living in North Carolina for many years. The people in this area have been good to us, and I wish to return that kindness through the great medical care. His top areas of expertise are Hypertension, Glucocorticoid-Remediable Aldosteronism, Familial Hypertension, and Type 2 Diabetes (T2D).

I am board certified in internal medicine and I have been practicing urgent care medicine since 1997. I enjoy the fast pace of urgent care, as well as the opportunity to solve problems for my patients. My approach has always been to accurately diagnose and treat underlying issues, while alleviating symptoms whenever possible. My training in internal medicine, my transitional internship (mixed medicine/surgery), as well as my previous roles as medical director of an intensive care unit and emergency room have prepared me well for the practice of urgent care. Growing up, I was undecided as to whether I wanted to become a detective or a teacher. I feel that my current work in urgent care allows me to be both!. His top areas of expertise are Empyema, Sinusitis, Tracheitis, and Chronic Cough.

I grew up in Durham, North Carolina. I always wanted to become a doctor. Medicine combines two things that I love: people and science. I am board-certified in family medicine and have been practicing urgent care medicine since 2011. I even served as medical director for a local urgent care center for five years. Trained as a primary care physician, I love the broad scope of urgent care medicine, along with the chance to perform procedures. I also love the challenge and variety of acute care needs and diagnoses. While medicine is challenging and patients are in need, I do try to connect with my patients and address their needs, but make them feel special at the same time. In my free time, I enjoy time with my wife and friends, exercising, and playing music as a hobby musician (guitar, bass, and drums). His top areas of expertise are Sciatica, Scoliosis, Empyema, and Sinusitis.

What is a primary care physician (PCP)?

A primary care physician (PCP) is the first doctor people go to when they feel sick or need a check-up. This doctor helps with many different health problems, gives advice to keep patients healthy, and treats common illnesses. A PCP also keeps track of a person’s overall health and can refer them to a specialist if more specific care is needed.

What’s the difference between a primary care physician (PCP) and a specialist?

The main difference between a PCP and a specialist is the kind of health conditions they treat. PCPs care for people of all ages and treat a wide range of health issues, from the common cold to sports injuries. They also focus on preventive care, such as vaccines to prevent illnesses or screenings to catch diseases before they become serious.

Specialists, on the other hand, have advanced training in a specific area of medicine like cardiology (heart health) or neurology (brain health). There are many kinds of specialists on MediFind, each with their own focus. When needed, PCPs will help patients understand when they need to see a specialist. PCPs will also collaborate with specialists on a treatment plan specific to their patients’ needs.

What is another name for a primary care physician?

There are a few different types of primary care doctors. In addition to primary care providers, a primary care physician may also be called a general practitioner, family doctor, or internist. There are also PCPs with special training to work with specific patient populations. Pediatricians, for example, are PCPs who work with children, while geriatricians are PCPs who work with older adults.

Why do people have a primary care physician?

People have a primary care physician to help keep them healthy and to have a doctor they can go to for most of their health needs. A PCP helps with regular check-ups, treats illnesses, and can help manage long-term health problems. That’s why it’s helpful for patients to maintain long-term relationships with their PCPs if possible.

Why does my health insurance require me to see a primary care physician?

Health insurance requires patients to see a primary care physician because a PCP helps keep people healthy with preventive care, which lowers costs for the insurer. A PCP can also decide if a patient needs to see a specialist, which helps avoid unnecessary tests and treatments, keeping healthcare costs down.

What is the first thing a doctor does when seeing a patient?

The first thing a primary care doctor does when seeing a patient is to ask questions about their health and health goals. This includes asking about symptoms, past health problems, family health history, and lifestyle. This helps the doctor understand what’s going on if the patient is experiencing a problem, or what might help the patient get healthier or stay healthy.

When should I visit a Nurse Practitioner (NP) vs. a Doctor (MD)?

You can visit a Nurse Practitioner (NP) for routine check-ups, minor illnesses, and help with long-term health issues. Nurse Practitioners are trained to handle many common health problems. You should see a Doctor (MD) for more serious or complicated health issues, or if you need specialized care that an NP cannot provide. Sometimes, NPs and MDs work together to take care of their patients.
