Dr. Robert Martyn

Mark Gibson, M.D. earned his undergraduate degree from The Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina and earned his medical degree from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia, South Carolina. He completed his residency from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He completed his fellowship in cardiovascular disease at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. Prior to joining Piedmont Heart of Blairsville, Dr. Gibson served in the United States Air Force as Chief of Cardiology at Scott Medical Center at Scott AFB, Illinois. After completing his military service, Dr. Gibson practiced at Southern Tennessee Heart & Vascular in Winchester, Tennessee. He is board certified in Cardiology and fully trained in Clinical & Invasive Cardiology, Echocardiography and Nuclear Cardiology. He is a member of the American College of Cardiology, the Society of Air Force Physicians, and American College of Physicians. He has written two books and in his spare time, Dr. Gibson enjoys travel, golf and fly fishing. Additionally, he loves fine wines. Having spent his childhood in the foothills of the Appalachians, Dr. Gibson's move to Blairsville represents something of a return to his roots.
