Dr. Russell M. Canham
Overview
Dr. Russell M. Canham focuses on patient care first, and with each unique patient he integrates all treatment options to provide the best possible care. He is a board-certified physician, trained in cardiovascular diseases and internal medicine, and is further specialized in cardiac electrophysiology. He also has extensive training with echocardiogram, nuclear stress testing, and vascular studies. He has been treating and caring for patients in the North Texas area for over 20 years. His training includes medical school at The University of Texas Houston Health Science Center, his internal medicine residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, and two fellowships at the renowned Washington University Medical Center in St. Louis, Mo. He also completed a master’s degree at UT Southwestern focused in clinic trial design, public heath, and epidemiology. Dr. Canham treats heart conditions including heart failure, coronary disease, vascular disease, valve disease, placement as well as abnormal heart rhythms. In addition, he implants and manages of all types of defibrillators, pacemakers, implantable cardiac monitors, and sets up treatment of abnormal rhythms with ablations. He also performs advanced lipid testing and treatments options for his patients. Dr. Canham has a focus on sudden cardiac death prevention and genetic abnormalities. Dr. Canham previously served as director of Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehabilitation for the Methodist Hospital System, where he also provided clinical instruction and lectures for the residency program.He has published many medical journal articles and chapters in cardiology books. Among his honors are Eagle Scout, Caring Spirit Award, and Patient’s Choice Award for many years in a row. He has also received D-Magazines Best Doctor award for 11 years straight from 2015 through 2025. He is active in his community, and is blessed to live with his wonderful wife and two children.
