Overview
Dr. Maniu joins the interventional section as an interventional cardiologist with over two decades of experience in academic, hospital, and community settings. He earned his medical degree from Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest, Romania, and completed his residency in Internal Medicine, as well as fellowships in Cardiovascular Diseases and Interventional Cardiology, at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville and Rochester. Clinically, Dr. Maniu sees outpatients at the Cardiology Clinic in Columbia, and he will cover the interventional lab at Howard County Medical Center. Johns Hopkins Endoscopy & Surgery Center - Columbia
Dr. Chao-Wei Hwang is an interventional cardiologist and Assistant Professor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins. Dr. Hwang received doctoral and medical training at Harvard Medical School. He completed residency in Internal Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital, and Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology fellowships at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. Dr. Hwang joined the Division of Cardiology as faculty in 2011. He spent a year at Virtua Health System in New Jersey as systemwide Director of Interventional Cardiology, and is now Director of the Johns Hopkins Interventional Cardiology Program at Frederick Health Hospital (FHH) and Co-Medical Director of the FHH Cardiac Catheterization Lab. Dr. Hwang is an expert interventional cardiologist specializing in complex coronary interventions, management of acute coronary syndromes and advanced coronary artery disease. He has specialized expertise in PCI of chronic total occlusions (CTO). Dr. Hwang has been involved in a number of device and coronary clinical trials, and his broad areas of research interests include developing and optimizing devices for the treatment of coronary artery disease. Dr. Hwang has published extensively in stent-based drug delivery systems and local delivery systems for cell-based therapies to the heart. Dr. Thomas Stephen Metkus is an assistant professor of cardiology at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His research focuses on using cardiac physiology for risk stratification and therapeutics in non-cardiac critical illness such as sepsis and the acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), and optimizing the management of non-cardiac organ failure in primary cardiac diseases such as heart failure and acute coronary syndromes. Dr. Metkus received his undergraduate degree from Boston University College of Engineering. He earned a medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and completed a residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. After completing residency, Dr. Metkus was a clinical fellow at both Harvard Medical School and Johns Hopkins Hospital. Prior to joining the faculty at the Johns Hopkins Medical School he was an instructor of medicine at the Harvard Medical School. His educational focus includes teaching clinical cardiology and critical care, echocardiography, and electrocardiography to students, residents, and fellows at the Johns Hopkins Hospital.
