Following this, he attended the Northwestern University?s Feinberg School of Medicine, in Chicago, Illinois, where he received his Doctor of Medicine in 2005. His postgraduate training began in 2005 with an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Case Western Reserve University, which he completed in 2008. He then completed a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 2012 and became Chief Fellow from 2010-2011. With a vast range of research interests, Dr. Gartrell focuses on translational research evaluating the significance of a novel immune checkpoint molecule in bladder cancer, evaluating the role of the autonomic nervous system in?prostate cancer, toxicities associated with anticancer therapies, and the impact of bone metastasis on patients with prostate cancer. His work has been published in a number of peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Clinical Oncology, Urologic Oncology, and European Urology.
