Dr. Takashi Hirase

Takashi Hirase, MD, MPH, is a dual fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon and musculoskeletal oncologist. He has a particular interest and expertise in minimally invasive and complex spine surgery, as well as providing advanced care in primary and metastatic tumors of the spine and pelvis.

Dr. Hirase has authored over 100 peer-reviewed research articles, book chapters, and abstracts, and has delivered numerous presentations and lectures at various national and international conferences. His research interest focuses primarily on investigating novel techniques, biomaterials, and treatment modalities that improve surgical outcomes in spine surgery and orthopedic oncology. His work also largely focuses on identifying modifying risk factors, developing perioperative risk stratification models, and improving health disparities with the goal of translating the data into real-world improvements in patient care.

He completed a clinical fellowship in spine surgery at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, where he developed extensive expertise in both minimally invasive and complex spine procedures, including the treatment of advanced scoliosis and revision spinal deformities. He then pursued a second fellowship in musculoskeletal oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, gaining specialized training in the management of benign and malignant tumors affecting the spine, pelvis and extremities.
