Dr. Joel C. Morgenlander
Overview
I am interested in both outpatient and inpatient care of patients with a wide variety of neurological disorders including a focus on sports neurology and sports concussion, general neurology, and autoimmune disorders such as multiple sclerosis (MS), neuromyelitis optica (NMO), sarcoidosis, vasculitis and chronic inflammatory demyelinating peripheral neuropathy. At Duke, we have talented neurology residents and fellows as well as advanced practice providers who help to provide excellent care. Clinical Research

I see patients with a broad range of movement disorders, including Parkinson's disease, tremors, ataxia, dystonia, tics, and Huntington's disease. I employ deep brain stimulation (DBS) therapy for selected patients with Parkinson's disease, tremor, or dystonia, and use botulinum toxin injections for certain patients with dystonia, tremors, or tics. I work with an interdisciplinary team of physicians, therapists, and other health care providers, with the overall goal of helping to improve the lives of patients with complex neurological diseases. Treatments can include a wide variety of medications, injections of botulinum toxin, and deep brain stimulation. My goal is to focus on the care of the whole person and their care partners. I strive to help alleviate all types of symptoms that can occur with movement disorders and to optimize your quality of life. I love getting to know my patients over many years together and traveling their health journey alongside them and their families. When I am away from the office, I enjoy spending time with family, exploring beautiful state of North Carolina, and supporting Duke athletics.
