Overview
Dr. Wassef Karrowni, M.D., is a board-certified interventional cardiologist with expertise in coronary, peripheral, and structural heart interventions. Dr. Karrowni attended medical school at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. He trained for residency in internal medicine, fellowship in cardiovascular diseases, and subspecialty in interventional cardiology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Dr. Karrowni’s clinical practice focuses on the treatment of patients with coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, peripheral vascular disease, critical limb ischemia, varicose veins, and deep vein disease.
Procedures performed by Dr. Karrowni include Percutaneous Coronary Interventions (PCI), Coronary and Peripheral CTO Interventions, Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR), Transcatheter Mitral Valve Replacement (TMVR), Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair (TEER) with MitraClip, Left Atrial Appendage Closure with Watchman, ASD/PFO Closure, Paravalvular Leak (PVL) Closure, Vein Ablations, Sclerotherapy, and Peripheral Arterial and Venous Endovascular Interventions.
Dr. Karrowni is board certified in the American Board of Internal Medicine, Cardiovascular Disease, and Interventional Cardiology; the American Board of Vascular Medicine, and Endovascular Medicine; the National Board of Echocardiography, Adult Comprehensive Echocardiography; Certification Board of Nuclear Cardiology; Certification Board of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography; and a Registered Physician in Vascular Interpretation (RPVI).
Dr. Karrowni is a member of the American College of Cardiology. He has received several honors and awards including the Doctor of Medicine awarded with distinction, elected member of Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society, elected Fellow of the Year consecutively for academic years 2009-2010 and 2010-2011, and served as Chief Fellow in Cardiology for academic year 2011-2012. Dr. Karrowni has published more than 30 book chapters and research papers, including prestigious publications such as the Journal of American College of Cardiology (JACC) and Circulation. His research interests involve the development of new devices in the cardiovascular field, and outcome research in the areas of valvular heart disease and vascular disease.
