Dr. Purinton is a gynecologic oncologist, or a doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating cancers that are located on women’s reproductive organs, like ovarian cancer. He serves as the chief of gynecologic oncology.|Dr. Purinton’s clinical interests include minimally invasive surgery, including robotic surgery techniques, which allow for quicker recovery time in the treatment of cancerous and noncancerous diseases of the female reproductive system; new chemotherapeutic protocols and targeted therapeutics in treating gynecologic cancers; ovarian cancer screening for early detection; improving quality of life for women with gynecologic cancers; and molecular profiling to lessen the chance of recurrence of gynecologic cancers.|Dr. Purinton earned his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and his fellowship in gynecologic oncology at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Purinton also holds a doctor of philosophy degree in physiology.
