Overview
Sorab Gupta, MD, is a triple board-certified hematologist/oncologist who treats various malignancies including gastrointestinal cancer, lung cancer, breast cancer and cancers of the genitourinary tract, along with other solid and hematological malignancies. He also treats patients with various benign blood disorders such as anemia and issues with platelets and coagulation. Dr. Gupta is skilled in performing bone marrow biopsies to diagnose bleeding disorders.|To Dr. Gupta, practicing medicine is a wonderful opportunity to serve people and give back to society. After completing a residency in India, he moved to the United States to complete an internal medicine residency at St. Barnabas Healthcare Network in the Bronx. He went on to complete a hematology and medical oncology fellowship at Einstein Healthcare Network in Philadelphia.|Dr. Gupta is a member of the American Society of Hematology and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. He has over 65 peer-reviewed publications to his name.|In his spare time, Dr. Gupta enjoys spending time with friends and family. He likes to travel and meet new people, listen to music and watch movies. He appreciates the beauty of the mountains and is happy to be living in a less urban environment than where he trained and worked before coming to Geisinger.

He serves as the chief of gynecologic oncology.|Dr. Purinton’s clinical interests include minimally invasive surgery, including robotic surgery techniques, which allow for quicker recovery time in the treatment of cancerous and noncancerous diseases of the female reproductive system; new chemotherapeutic protocols and targeted therapeutics in treating gynecologic cancers; ovarian cancer screening for early detection; improving quality of life for women with gynecologic cancers; and molecular profiling to lessen the chance of recurrence of gynecologic cancers.|Dr. Purinton earned his medical degree from the University of Miami School of Medicine. He completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and his fellowship in gynecologic oncology at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. Dr. Purinton also holds a doctor of philosophy degree in physiology.
