Dr. James R. Wong

James R. Wong, MD, is a radiation oncologist and founder and medical director of the Leonard B. Kahn Head and Neck Cancer Institute at Morristown Medical Center. He specializes in treating head and neck cancers, nasopharyngeal cancer, breast cancer, gastrointestinal cancer, brain tumors and prostate cancer. In 1997, Dr. Wong was named chair of Radiation Oncology at Morristown Medical Center where he presided over the reorganization and development of the new Department of Radiation Oncology. A year later, he was appointed associate clinical professor of radiation oncology at Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons. In 2004, he was appointed by New Jersey Governor Jim McGreevey to the task force on the Prevention, Detection and Treatment of Cancer.Recently, Dr. Wong has developed an interest in incorporating Integrative Medicine and complementary supportive care in the treatment and recovery plans for his patients. Dr. Wong has launched “Integrate to Wellness,” a ten-week program using therapies such as acupuncture and stress management. Before arriving at Atlantic Health System, Dr. Wong served as assistant professor of radiology at the New York Hospital, Cornell University Medical College. He was also the director of radiation oncology fellows and the director of radiation oncology research at the New York Hospital/Cornell Medical Center. At the Stich Radiation Center of New York Hospital, he was in charge of radiation therapy for brain tumors and stereotactic radiosurgery.Graduating summa cum laude from Harvard College, Dr. Wong received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School where he became one of the few honor graduates of his year. He practiced internal medicine at the New England Deaconess Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and continued on for four more years of specialty training in radiation oncology at the Harvard Joint Center for Radiation Therapy. During his 15 years at Harvard, he published many articles in leading scientific journals, including Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, Cell, Journal of Biochemistry, and Cancer Research.Dr. Wong has been selected as one of the “Top Prostate Cancer Specialists” in the United States and is considered a pioneer of image-guided radiation therapy. He was elected by his peers for inclusion in “Best Doctors in America®” for five consecutive years. He is affiliated with Atlantic Medical Group, and is a participating provider of Atlantic Accountable Care Organization.
