Dr. Michael K. Matthews

Michael Matthews, MD, PhD, is a neurologist certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. He is an assistant professor of Neurology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from the University of Nebraska and completed his residency at Albany Medical College, followed by his fellowship at Boston Medical Center. Dr. Matthews’ clinical interests include medical staff leadership and supervising student and resident rotations in neurology. His research interests include behavioral neurology, psychology, neurology-psychiatry liaison, computational theory of mind, neurological basis of consciousness, the “explanatory gap” between biological processes and psychological functioning, art and neurology, and the evolution of behavior. He has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals and is a member of the American Academy of Neurology, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the Mercer County Medical Society, and the Behavioral Neurology Society.
