Overview

As a surgeon that specializes in the vascular system, which is the body's network of blood vessels, I appreciate that there are many different ways to significantly help people. I truly believe making a connection with a person is one of the most important aspects in patient care. I don’t tell my patients what decision to make about their health. It's my job to understand the priorities in their life and then give them information and guidance to make their own decision. In doing so, a stroke can be prevented by repairing arteries to the brain. Fixing an aneurysm, which is caused by a weakness in the wall of an artery, can save someone from hemorrhaging to death, and treating the arteries to the legs can prevent an amputation or help reduce some causes of severe leg pain.

Dr. Shortell is rated as an Experienced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Milroy Disease. Her top areas of expertise are Varicose Veins, Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA), Thoracic Aortic Aneurysm, Carotid Artery Surgery, and Thrombectomy.

I am a plastic and reconstructive surgeon with a specialty focus in microsurgery, which most often involves transfer of tissue from one part of the body to another to restore or replace tissues that has been affected by cancer or trauma. However, I have a broad range of interests, and I feel that my responsibility as a reconstructive surgeon is to be familiar and comfortable with reconstructive procedures throughout the entire body. By fulfilling this responsibility, my hope is to provide operative treatments that restore form, function, and wholeness to patients whose illnesses or injuries have taken something away from them. The conditions that I treat most commonly are cancers of the breast, head and neck, and the bones and soft tissues of the extremities. I also provide surgical solutions for lymphedema, including lymphaticovenous anastomosis and lymph node transfers. Other areas of clinical expertise include cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the breast and trunk, including gender-affirming surgeries and body contouring. Within cancer care, I believe my most important job is to enable colleagues in other cancer disciplines to do their lifesaving work without fear that their operations and treatments will permanently disable, disfigure, or otherwise harm their patients. Reconstructive surgery allows us to optimize cancer care without this fear. Dr. Sisk is rated as an Advanced provider by MediFind in the treatment of Milroy Disease. His top areas of expertise are Breast Cancer, Angiosarcoma, Paget Disease of the Breast, Mastectomy, and Lymphadenectomy.
