O'Gara was Chair of the writing committee for the 2013 ACC/AHA Guideline for the Management of Patients with ST-Elevation MI and has participated in several other guideline, expert consensus, scientific advisory and appropriate use criteria writing groups.He is currently the Vice-Chair for the AHA/ACC Task Force on Clinical Practice Guidelines. He is also the Steering Committee Co-Chair of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute's Cardiothoracic Surgery Network, which has completed 3 groundbreaking, randomized controlled trials in cardiac surgery. O’Gara serves as Associate Editor for JAMA Cardiology and is a member of the Editorial Boards of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and Circulation. He has lectured widely and authored or co-authored over 250 original manuscripts, chapters, critical reviews, statements and editorials.
