Dr. Radha Goel
Overview
I practice non-invasive imaging for cardiology. One of the things I love about being at Duke is that there are so many people and providers who have interests and research and abilities in every sub-subspecialty of medicine. Specifically in cardiology, there are treatment and surgery and procedures for everything. So a patient who comes to Duke for cardiology has all of that available at their fingertips. My favorite part of my job is meeting and taking care of patients every day, seeing new people and learning about them and how I can help them improve their health -- and of course hearing people say, wow I really feel better because of what we did two weeks ago. I really enjoy making that impact.

I am excited about electrophysiology because it gives me the opportunity to improve patients' quality of life and allows patients to live longer in many cases. I ultimately went to medical school because of a passion for helping people, lifelong learning, and establishing meaningful relationships with my patients. I strongly believe in patient engagement and patient-centered decision making. Therefore, I believe that it is important to spend time educating patients and discussing all available treatment options. I encourage patients and their family members to ask questions so that I can help them understand their health. I offer medical therapy and catheter ablation therapy to patients with atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, supraventricular tachycardia, and premature ventricular contractions (PVCs), and ventricular tachycardia. I also place transvenous pacemakers and defibrillators (ICDs), cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) devices, leadless pacemakers, and subcutaneous defibrillators. I also perform lead extractions. I have two children, and I enjoy cooking, as well as playing golf, tennis, and skiing. I diagnose and treat cardiac arrhythmias, including atrial fibrillation, Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome, supraventricular tachycardias (SVT), atrial flutter, and ventricular arrhythmias. I perform catheter ablation procedures, including minimally invasive catheter surgery, for these conditions. I also implant and manage devices, such as pacemakers, defibrillators, and cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) pacemakers or defibrillators. I also evaluate patients for possible genetic causes for sudden cardiac arrest or arrhythmias. Collaborating with a genetic counselor specializing in cardiac disorders, I perform genetic testing for these conditions. In addition, I evaluate athletes with cardiac conditions, focusing on arrhythmias and abnormal electrocardiograms.
