Like many, I took a circuitous route to medicine. I studied chemistry in college and thought that I would pursue a career in research or public health. While these areas still interest me, I gravitated to medicine because of a desire to work directly with patients on improving their health and well-being. Through my training, which has included fellowship work in counseling, I have learned that many factors influence health, including relationships and other social supports. I feel that addressing mental health issues and enlisting the help of support systems are critical to feeling well physically and emotionally. I enjoy working with patients of all ages and backgrounds and learn new things from every person I meet. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, being outside (often with my dog in tow), cooking, traveling, and watching college basketball.
